We received word that Kenneth Gwyn Vaughn, passed away on November 8th, in Tulia. He was a descendant of the Griffin family and a member of the Cottonwood Historical Association.

Kenneth Gwyn "K.G." Vaughn, 84, died at 8:15 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 at Swisher Memorial Hospital in Tulia.

A rosary service was recited for K.G. at 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at the Kornerstone Funeral Directors chapel in Tulia. A private graveside service for the immediate family will be held today at Rose Hill Cemetery with Father Mario Stortz officiating. A memorial mass will be conducted at 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Fernando Ruge officiating.

K.G. was born on April 8, 1925 in Tulia, where he resided his entire life. He married Karleen Ann Schwaller of Nazareth on Aug. 9, 1949 and together they raised nine children. He owned and operated Vaughn Co., Inc. from 1946 until his recent illness. He was very active in his community and church. K.G. served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946 and continued in the Naval Reserves from 1946 until 1976, retiring as a LCDR.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Karleen; his son, Tim Vaughn; and his granddaughter, Madeline Vaughn.

He is survived by five daughters and three sons, Gwyn Ann Shannon of Tulia, Tom Vaughn of Shallowater, Janis Vaughn Miller of Lubbock, Rex Vaughn of Spur, Mary Beth Minchew of Wills Point, Bill Vaughn of Virginia Beach, Va., Lorin Scarborough of Arlington and Sharon Wilkes of Lubbock; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
