Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Control Group Fish Fry A Huge Success!
January 31, 2010 - 2:40pm — CottonwoodTexas
Hundreds of local Cottonwood and Cross Plains folks came out to the First Baptist Church’s Family Life Center in Cross Plains on last Saturday night for the Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Control Group’s Second Annual Fish Fry Fundraiser.
The fish and chicken were catered by David and Betty Mendieta and staff of Mexico City Café, in Cross Plains. French fries and hushpuppies were cooked by Cottonwood firefighters. Dana Hall and several of the firefighters made the coleslaw. Fireman Arnie Smith cooked the beans. Ladies of the Cottonwood community provided the desserts.
The Texas-Sized Snowball Quilt was on display during the event. Joe York of Burleson, who has a place in Cottonwood, was the winner of the quilt.
One of the highlights of the evening was the drawing for a door-prize, a $25.00 gift card donated by Walmart in Brownwood. Angela Bogart was the lucky winner.
A very big thank you to everyone who helped out and made this event such a great success – especially the First Baptist Church, Mexico City Café, Mike Winfrey and Cowboys (who lent us their fry cookers), the Cross Plains Fire Department (who lent us their fry baskets and fry pans), Village Market (who donated the propane), Walmart, the Cross Plains Review, Mary Ella Weaver (who donated the Texas-Sized Snowball Quilt), Dana Hall and the ladies in Cottonwood.
Proceeds from the fish fry go toward the new firetruck that’s being built for Cottonwood, thanks to a grant from the Texas Forest Service that will cover 90% of the cost the truck. The Fire Control Group working through a series of fundraisers to raise the remaining 10% of the cost of the new truck - about $7800.
